The statistics are shocking: in India, the police register 86 rapes every day. As women are often afraid to report rape and the authorities are reluctant to pursue rapists, the true number is likely to be much higher.
Kinjal, a 17-year-old lower-caste Indian, was raped by the son of a landowner from a higher caster. Her story tells of an India where rape is often not taken seriously and those of lower caste Indians even less so.
