The Greek island of Leros had a tumultuous second world war, being held by Allied and Axis forces. The surrounding waters have many shipwrecks from the period and on land the marks of war are still clearly visible. 80 years after the end of hostilities, the question of how to pass on the memory of the conflict is a lively issue.
