Many musical artists are getting interested in sounds that moves beyond the traditional twelve tones of most western music. Microtonal music is breathing new life into the avant-garde and is a contrast and challenge to AI-generated songs, but has also been present in music of other regions of the world for time immemorial.

Tracks meets guitarists Maddie Ashman and Tolgahan Çoğulu as well as the organisers of the international convention for microtonal music, “Untwelving” in Munich, to find out more.
