The Sado Delta, south of Lisbon, has been transformed from a polluted area to a regenerated biodiverse habitat. Thanks to the tireless efforts of local environmentalists and fisherwomen, who see themselves as the guardians of the sea, Portuguese oysters have been able to be reintroduced.
