Biodiversity: Fighting against Extinction
Studies show that insect populations have declined by 70-80% over the last ten years in areas of intensive agriculture. Birds are not faring any better either: their numbers have fallen by 60% in Europe over the last 40 years. On 17 June 2024, the EU member states adopted a so-called Nature Restoration Law, which obliges EU countries to restore at least 20% of degraded land and marine areas by 2030 and all threatened ecosystems by 2050.
