Slovenia is known as the land of bees, with its beekeeping culture recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. But in the 2000s, the country faced a severe bee die-off due to pesticides. In 2011, Slovenia became the first in Europe to ban neonicotinoids, while bee mortality continues to rise elsewhere on the continent.
