Hip-hop dance is based on freestyle techniques and has its roots in the urban dances of early hip-hop culture. Its influences include other dance styles as well as movements from everyday life, nature and the kung fu films of the 1970s. An individual interpretation of movement and music is characteristic of hip-hop dance battles.
