Israel Kaunatjike, a Herero descendant, campaigns for the rights of his people. This indigenous group was decimated by German colonial troops over a century ago. He lives in Berlin, but is returning to Namibia on a mission to reckon with his country's painful past. He goes to Swakopmund, a seaside resort with a strong Germanic influence, where Hereros from all over the country gather to commemorate what they say was a genocide waged against their people.
