The action you are about to witness has the particular misfortune of containing images that, charged with violence, seem to be the cruel likeness of our near reality.
I imagined this work over a year ago.
No one could have foreseen this painful overlapping of art and reality, which today seems like an atrocious prophecy.
How to support today the unconscious exactness of these images on the stage?
But what to do in the face of the irretrievable that theatre represents?
It is essential to accept the pain produced by this concordance, in the light that Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection can represent.

Shortly after the Russian Revolution, Finland declared its independence on 6 December 1917. Every year on this National Day, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra traditionally gives its annual Independence Day concert. The 2023 lineup festures star violinist Pekka Kuusisto playing a selection of great Finnish composers: Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen and, of course, Jean Sibelius.

Including Arvo Part was a natural choice seeing as Jaan-Eik Tulve and Vox Clamantis also come from Estonia. Four works by the immense Baltic composer fill the Cité des Congrès de Nantes auditorium: Missa syllabica, Nunc dimittis, Da pacem, Domine and And I Heard a Voice, sitting next to other works like an excerpt from Quatre Motets sur des thèmes grégoriens by Maurice Duruflé, Gloria by Helena Tulve (performed for the first time in France) and O ignis Spiritus by Hildegarde Von Bingen.
