Choreographer Marcos Morau and the Ballet Nacional de España combine their choreographic work with the images of Colombian photographer Ruvén Afanador.
Afanador is a danced celebration of the work of Ruvén Afanador, the great fashion photographer who was born in 1959. Through his camera lens, the Colombian artist has captured the faces and personalities of key figures in fashion, music and cinema. His photographs have become the stuff of legend, appearing on the covers of Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and The New York Times.

Fascinated by the body in movement, Ruvén Afanador is also passionate about flamenco – the subject of two books of photography: Mil Besos: One Thousand Kisses in 2009 and Ruvén Afanador: Angel Gitano: The Men of Flamenco in 2014.

Photography, dance and flamenco thus form the backbone of Afanador, which is choreographed by Marcos Morau, directed by Rubén Olmo and masterfully performed by the Ballet Nacional de España. The result is a breathtakingly beautiful show, almost surreal in its radical use of black and white for the sets and costume design.

Filmed in February 2024 at the Teatro Real in Madrid (Spain).
