The far-right is taking over Italy’s cultural scene

JRR Tolkien’s literary works have fascinated the Italian far-right. His intricate and imaginary world where elves, hobbits and orcs live together without ever mixing coincides with the values they defend. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made several references to Tolkien during her campaign and most recently, opened a new exhibition about the author at Rome’s National Gallery.
